Here are some of the reasons I was given growing up. Practice might be on a meeting night and if it wasn't, you should be doing more personal study that night, sports shouldn't be the focus. You will be associating with all those worldly kids on the bus and other events. Then what are you going to do when they play the national anthem. If none of these factors fit then they had the violence trump card. That football is like the ancient games in Rome where there was a fight to the death. Soccer was originally played with the head of a recently beheaded person ( what would Jehovah think of you playing that same game)? The excuses went on and on. How can you fight it when you are a 12 year old kid. My kids play sports, one of them did even before our exit. It's one of the reasons that people in our congregation felt made us spiritually weak. Yeh that was it.

JWS and Sports
by luffy indoes anyone know why jws are not supposed to participate in sports and what is their view towards watching sports on the tv, ie a game of football..does not playing sport extend to not watching and what are the biblical reasons given?.

I find myself just getting "tired" of waiting for the End of the world. U2?

i am really beginning to believe we were all just made to believe in a fairy tale.
i still love jehovah and jesus but my faith is just wasting away behind waiting for a change such as the rapture/armaggeddon/paradise earth.

I agree especially when you see friends in the truth their whole life getting older. They put so many things on hold because the new system is around the corner. Some of them never married, no kids, no education, no 401k, if you mention anything in the news or politics "oh it's all going down anyway". It's a very fatalistic view of life. The scary part is that when Ray Franz was a child they were saying the same things. Glad we woke up while we still have some life in us.

Sorry, another mom here. Just think a few years down the road. My company policy says no visable tatoos. There a few men and women who are forced to wear long sleeves even in the summer because of tats on their arms and they can't wear body peircing (only two holes per ear can have earrings in). I will qualify that this is the mid west and much more concervative than California. Have fun though, and finish that education. Mom.

Yes, I have faked but more often stretched out colds and flu. Like right now, we have just had a really bad cold for five months.

Finally given in - going to have counselling!
by dobbie inwent to the docs today, have finally accepted that i need help getting over (or accepting) some of the huge guilt i have for things in the past.
i persuaded hubby to have it last yr and it has helped him so much that i am going to try it.
am very nervous as not one to talk about things with strangers but if it gets good results and makes me (and then my family) happy then it is worth it.

Dobbie, I have not officially had counseling but I'm in that field of employment and we help eachother out alot because we are all open to it. I'm sure you have heard this said before but I think it is so logical. You would not hesitate to get help if you were diabetic, you would take the proper medication or make appropriate lifestyle changes. If your child has a fever, there are measures you take to bring it down or find out what is causing the fever. But when people see a possible mental or emotional problem they view it as a personal failure or weakness. I don't know why. Often too, it is actually a biochemical problem , just like any other physical problem and short term antidepressants will work wonders to help with low serotonin levels. Sometimes just talking helps. Digderidoo attends AA meetings and talks to different people that all have one glaring problem in common. That's why I have found this forum to be so helpful, one similar experience but many different perspectives. I hope you have a great experience.

Psychology
by billie jean inon a recent discussion about my poor depressed father to my mother (both witnesses) i suggested that he should see a counsellor or at least get some help as i was trying to get her to see how ill he's becoming 'mentally'.
her answer in a very dismissive tone to me was ,.
" oh no you don't we're not into that, youre not using any psychologist on us ".

Billie jean, I think alot of witnesses are afraid to open up to a therapist because they would have to disclose too much about how the truth dictates so much of their life. If a person is depressed the therapist may reccomend that they take time out for themselves, eat right, work out ect, there is not alot of time for that living the witness lifestyle. Also they may view it as a defeat, here they are suppose to be the happiest people on earth, and they need a pill for depression. Sorry about your dad, I hope he listens to you eventually. Welcome to the site.

Whats the Craziest thing you've heard a JW blame Satan for????
by superman inas most of you know, that evil spirit creature known as satan the devil is of course after jw's and only jw's.
i can remember this middle aged lady at my old hall give a comment on how "satan works in the most mysterious ways against jehovah's people, he even has the teachers give out more homework on meetings nights so that he can make it more difficult for the young ones to attend the meetings".
at that time i was hardcore in it, and even thought this lady is a "looney-tune".

Pioneers who tell mentally ill patients (after all that's who is home on tuesday mornings) "That's not schizophrenia causing your auditory hallucinations. That's the DEVIL" People who didn't bother to get any education, no health insurance, had 7 kids that they homeschooled say that they don't have two cents to rub together because "the devil is working overtime"!

I wonder if there is a way to register to vote without anybody knowing.
by easyreader1970 inafter i have mentally fallen away from the wbts, i no longer feel that waiting for some sky god to do something is an appropriate response to dissatisfaction.
but since i am still in the organization in body, i can't really do anything openly.
i was in the library yesterday and i was tempted to register to vote but i am not sure if it can be done in a way that my wife could never find out.

I never once thought voting was a conscience matter. I need the new light on this. Isn't that putting your trust in earthling man? Why would we try to save a sinking ship? Aren't they all the Devil's pawns? blah blah yada yada
